The Inner-Voice: Which voice will you listen to?
Voices are fighting for your attention. Not in a schizophrenic kind of way, but in an “I hear so many things in my head” way that makes it hard to know what is truly the best choice.
We have voices stemming from our past; our childhood. And if you’re reading this there is a strong likelihood that those childhood voices were not the healthiest. Many of us experienced rejection, judgment, abandonment, and chaos, whether realistic or perceived, and that birthed the voices that say, “you’re not good enough, you don’t deserve, you can’t do it.” Difficult or traumatic events in our teenage years continuing into adulthood made it feel like the messages we heard in childhood might actually be true. And if they are, then really what’s the point of fighting them?
The entire time, whether we have been aware of it or not, there has been another voice. This voice is God, through the Holy Spirit, that speaks life, hope, truth, and guidance. Daily this voice attempts to expose you to a different perspective, a hopeful look at your future, and words that bring courage to get through that tough moment. It’s the voice that rejects the rejections, gives no worth to the words of worthlessness, and gives a glimmer of light during those dark thoughts. It’s the voice that literally gets you out of bed when you don’t want to, and keeps you going when you feel like you have nothing left. It doesn’t let you quit no matter how bad a mistake you’ve made.
The voice urges you to reach out when you’re about to make a life threatening choice, and tells you to pick up the phone when that loved one is checking in on you. It offers you hope to believe life can get better. Yes, that voice is inside of each and every one of us. The problem is, we have to evaluate which voice we allow to rule us.
How do you know which voice is ruling you?
Look at your actions. Look at your words. What you believe in your heart is revealed in what you say. What you really believe can be interpreted based on your behaviors. You can talk a “good talk” all day long, but your actions reveal your “truth”. If you truly have hope, live in freedom, and believe in yourself, you will not stay in bed all day. You will not remain angry and cry yourself to sleep due to emotional pain. It can be flipped to say that if you feel hopeless, worthless, and overwhelmed by life, you will not get up cheery every morning. You will not be able to genuinely show love to those around you or speak enthusiastically about your future. The voice you entertain the most will be revealed in what you say and do.
Turning this around is easier said than done. However, it is possible.
The great news is that the voice that speaks hope and love through the Holy Spirit is The One whose truths are unbreakable, immovable, and can stand the test of time. It’s about seeking these truths, allowing these truths to become beliefs, and ultimately living out of them. Then, and only then will the voice of this world be obliterated! Yes, we may not be able to permanently mute the negative voice, but we can live a life where it will never steal another second of your life again.
Alcántara Wellness is equipped to guide you in this journey and help you find that voice inside of you that will never leave you nor forsake you and promises to guide you to an abundant and vibrant life.
